Visitor FAQs

  • What is a Congregational church?

Congregational churches are Protestant churches in which each congregation independently and autonomously runs its own affairs. Here at Wilton Congregational Church, we govern ourselves, raise our own funds, hire our clergy, plan our own worship services and fellowship opportunities, and conduct outreach activities of our own choosing. We worship God together and strive to grow our Christian faith life.

  • What is the service like?

On Sunday mornings, we’ll welcome you warmly for our service that starts at 9:30 a.m. Plan on a service that lasts some 50-60 minutes. It may make you smile, may make you think, or may challenge you in unexpected ways. You may leave tapping your toes to the rhythms of contemporary worship music, or humming the tunes of old traditional hymns. There’s no set pattern for our worship music – on any given Sunday, it could be either traditional or contemporary!

Online instead of in person? If you’d rather participate in the worship service online instead of in person, you can join our YouTube livestream on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. or watch the service later. Either way, find us on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@wiltoncongregationalchurch8911/streams

  • What should I wear?

Wear clothes. Any kind of clothes. Come in jeans, come in your Sunday Best. Come in your soccer uniform, come in your jacket and tie. God loves you, no matter what you wear.

  • What about my children?

Bring your children to the sanctuary with you for the service at 9:30 a.m.! All children are welcome to stay in the sanctuary for the duration of the service. Children in grades K-5 have the option of coming forward for a Children’s Message with the pastor early in the service. Then they leave the sanctuary, together with their teachers, and go to their Church School class, held in the lower level of our building. At the conclusion of the service, you can meet your children in their classroom. Youth in grades 6-12 often serve as Church School volunteers or remain in worship through the service.

  • Where do I park?

We try to keep the two lots right next to the church available for our visitors and those with mobility challenges. Our biggest parking lots are not immediately visible, so this is a particularly good question! The Wilton Playshop Parking Lot is a few yards down Lovers Lane; take the driveway just to the right of the Playshop building, and then walk back up to the church. The Old Town Hall Parking Lot is located just off Belden Hill Road, at 2 Belden Hill Lane. The lot is behind Old Town Hall. Walk down the walkway to the left of Old Town Hall, cross Ridgefield Road (carefully!) and go straight into the front doors of the church.

  • What’s Coffee Hour all about?

Come join us in Pilgrim Hall right after worship for a quick treat before heading out. It’s a time to meet someone new or catch up with old friends. Worshipping together is not just sitting in a pew – it’s also having a few minutes to share conversation among our church family.
