We are a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds. Program: Building houses. WCC involvement: We provide financial support along with “hands on” opportunities for the congregation to assist in renovating and building houses. We also conduct an annual “Tool Bag” drive to collect tools from the congregation and the community for Habitat for Humanity families that have moved into their new homes. We also have our “Gift of Christmas” catalog, where members of the congregation purchase gifts for our mission partners, by selecting from a catalog, filling out a gift form, and making a donation. The donor receives an ornament and a tag identifying the purchased gift. There are two local chapters of Habitat. The first is Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County in Bridgeport. We coordinate our work with this chapter through the Sound Coalition, which is a group of 4 Congregational Churches who pool their resources to work together. The second is Housatonic Habitat for Humanity in Danbury.
