We come together with a hunger to learn more about Jesus Christ and our lives as modern-day Christians. Worship brings faith into real-life perspective reminding us that we are not alone, that we have the power and support to move mountains. To know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been, so we look to the Bible for guidance. Thought-provoking sermons bring understanding to these ancient teachings, stretching minds and challenging preconceptions. From the majestic sounds of a pipe organ to the upbeat rhythm of drums and guitars, we speak many worship languages as we seek to share the Gospel with authenticity and relevance. Every service sounds the notes of hope and grace—each in its own way.

Sunday Service  10:00 AM

Each Sunday, we gather at God’s house for worship that engages body, heart and mind. While traditional, our Sunday worship service is alive with contemporary relevance. Melodies from around the world mingle with beloved hymns in musical programs that inspire and move us. Scripture readings and thought-provoking sermons draw us closer to the Lord, helping us better understand our lives as Christians in a pluralistic world.

Together, we pray for those we love and those we will never know, confident that God’s caring hand is upon them. As sunlight streams through the windows of this historic sanctuary, we recall our responsibility to the world beyond these walls, and scatter to share God’s love with all.

Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month for all who wish to know the Christ within and around them. Ours is an open table at which all are welcome.

Fellowship  11:00 AM

Fellowship is a meaningful part of our time together on Sunday mornings, an opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Coffee Hour, which is held in Pilgrim Hall following the worship service, gives us a chance to refuel with tempting treats and beverages while enjoying one another’s company. It is a time of laughter and warm conversation shared by our church family—from the very youngest to the wisest of elders.

Saturday@5:  Select Saturdays at 5:00 PM

If upbeat rhythms and blue jeans are more your worship style, then join our Saturday@5 service, which takes place once a month on Saturday. Please check our calendar for specific dates. An eclectic blend of modern musical styles performed by WCC’s talented band gets everyone singing —from bluegrass to rock, gospel to pop, funk to jazzed-up hymns. The atmosphere is decidedly casual and electrically charged, a lively alternative for those seeking an informal yet deeply meaningful worship experience. A refuge to work out the dynamics of living, Soul Celebration offers relevant Scripture lessons, inspirational sermons, and powerful group prayer that bring us closer to God.

Communion is offered at each service. Ours is an open table at which all are welcome. Come as you are is the rule. Leave changed is the promise.

Holiday & Special Services

Ash Wednesday

PLEASE NOTE:  There will be no Ash Wednesday service in 2017.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the forehead as a reminder of our mortality, and as a sign of dependence on God. It begins the Lenten (meaning spring) time of preparation for the Easter coming of Christ. Enter into this time of reflection during our Ash  Wednesday evening service.

Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday marks a time of great celebration in the ministry of Jesus. With palms waving and voices raised in joyful song, we recall Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Following the Children’s Message, students head off to Church School to explore a Jerusalem marketplace reminiscent of the kind that Jesus encountered centuries past while youth and adults engage in spirited worship.

Maundy Thursday Service of Tenebrae
Tenebrae is the Latin word for “darkness” or “shadows.” During this moving and powerful service, we sense some of Christ’s pain and suffering on the day of His crucifixion. This re-enactment of Jesus’ betrayal begins with communion followed by a musical service and readings. The sanctuary darkness as lights and candles are extinguished throughout the service until only one candle—the symbol of our Lord—remains. A guided meditation and simple meal of soup and bread precede the service.

Soul Celebration Holy Saturday Service
Holy Saturday (or Easter Eve) is a special occasion for receiving new members into the life of the church, either through infant or believers immersion baptisms, dating back to the first century church. Join us at this special Soul Celebration Service when we celebrate in joyous music, along with the sacraments of Baptism and Communion, the reception of new members into the life of the church.

Easter Sunrise Service
Weather permitting, we will gather at the top of Hillside Cemetery amidst the promise of resurrection, new life and Spring to welcome the risen Christ into our lives.

Easter Sunday 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM
Celebrate the promise of the resurrection as we gather in faith and hope on Easter. This festive, triumphant service reminds us to seek the risen Jesus where he is found—in our scripture and stories, in our worship together, in our everyday lives—and bear witness to Christ’s presence in the world. A professional orchestra, conducted by Director of Music Ministries Richard Glafke, joins the Adult Choir and select soloists in a truly uplifting musical performance, concluding with the traditional “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.

Children’s Sunday
At the end of every school year, one Sunday is dedicated to the children of our church.  Children take the lead in this special service by reading scriptures, singing songs, and assisting the ushers.  Third graders are presented with their first bibles, followed by a special blessing from our pastor.  Beginning in 2016, our fifth graders will receive their first communion on the same day.

Compo Beach Services Select summer Sundays at 8:30 AM
WCC and neighboring churches gather together each Sunday morning during the summer for worship by the shore. Bring a beach towel or chair, dig your toes into the sand, and celebrate God and the exquisite environment he’s entrusted to us at services featuring live contemporary Christian music, community prayer and inspiring sermons. Lead by a different church each week, all are welcome to join us at Compo Beach in Westport.

Service of Remembrance for Hope & Renewal
These special services honor loved ones who have passed. They offer a time to reflect, remember and rejoice in the lives of friends, family members and those we love who no longer live among us. We each experience loss and grief during our time here on Earth, and all are invited to join in this meaningful service.
