So what is Spiritual Direction anyway?  Well, it is an ancient practice that Wikipedia defines as:  the practice of being with people as they attempt to deepen their relationship with the divine, or as they learn and grow in their own personal spirituality.

Spiritual Directors are like midwives.  They don’t give answers, but they are there to help you in the process of deepening your relationship with God.  A metaphor that I like to use is that of the third chair.  In Spiritual Direction, there are three chairs in the room.  One is for the Spiritual Director, one is for the one receiving direction, and one is for the Divine who is the real guide and whose loving presence is always with us.
